Central Coast Memorial Society (CCMS) is a non-profit, non-sectarian form of consumer alliance dedicated to simplicity, dignity and economy in funeral and memorial arrangements.
The Society was established in 1962 as a California non-profit corporation. Membership is open to all persons. The Society is not an insurance plan, a mortuary, cremation firm, or other business. Unlike commercial cremation societies, it is a volunteer organization of people seeking access to simple and economical mortuary care.
Do you agree that:
If so, membership in the Central Coast Memorial Society can give you some options.
- Funerals are commonly too overdone and unnecessarily costly;
- There is dignity in simplicity and simple care should be a readily available choice;
- Commercial "selling" of unneeded and undesired mortuary service is not appropriate;
- Early planning can bring better decisions, lighten survivors' burdens and save unneeded expense?
If so, membership in the Central Coast Memorial Society can give you some options.
What is a Memorial Society?
Most societies, around the country, consist of groups of people in an area who have formed an organization with the common purpose of negotiating with local mortuaries to provide end-of-life care to an individual member as that person desires. The member completes a directive, to be carried out by the mortuary, outlining just what the member prefers.
Until recently, most mortuaries regularly denied requests for simple death care, simplicity that threatened their profits. Public demand and growth of Memorial Societies has now induced many mortuaries to offer simple care, but not necessarily at appropriately reasonable cost. Memorial Societies seek to secure and maintain easy access to simple, less expensive care for those who wish it.
